Conference

An official “Bail-out” for teachers was
passed by the CCSS Board of Directors on January 10 slashing
the cost of attending the conference. Now you can book a
hotel room for a night, get registration and CCSS membership
for about the price of registration alone!
CCSS understands that many School Districts are unable to
process Purchase Orders before the February 20th deadline.
As a result, the registration deadline has been extended.
Here are the following options:
- Mailed registrations must be postmarked by February
20, 2009. (School Districts: Must include a copy of the
PO with an authorized signature)
- Faxed registrations must be submitted by March 2nd,
2009. (School Districts: Must include a copy of the PO
with an authorized signature)
- Online registration (Paypal) will be open through
March 4th, 2009.
- Onsite registration - If you would like to bring a
School Purchase order (with an authorized signature) to
On-Site Registration, please email the CCSS office
info@ccss.org in
advance. This will help us process your registration
faster!

The California Council for the Social Studies would like
to invite you to attend our 48th Annual Conference,
Historical Literacy in a Changing World, in beautiful
downtown Ontario. During this three-day event we have
top-rated speakers, scholars, workshops, seminars and a
variety of other special events. Some of our featured
speakers include:
Sam Chaltain,
Founding Director of the Five Freedoms Project of the First
Amendment Center. He is a national leader and speaker who
brings together students, educators and communities to
discuss and support the Five Freedoms of our American
democracy: religious liberty, speech, press, assembly, and
petition.
Peter Irons,
American political activist is a civil rights attorney and
author of the best selling book, God on Trial: Dispatches
from America's Religious Battlefields. He is currently
arguing for Michael Newdow in the famous Pledge of
Allegiance case brought before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Stephen Cunha,
Professor of Geography, Humboldt State University, Director,
California Geographic Alliance and Hilda Taba Award Winner.
Always an exciting speaker who will increase your knowledge
of geography as well as entertain you!
We also offer a Scholar series with thought provoking
topics of interest for our attendees. Choose from over 100
workshops and sessions that are sure to bring innovation,
creativity and fun to your classroom. Tour the exhibit hall
and view the latest instructional materials from all our
vendors. Hear Fred Jones, our own CCSS Capitol Lobbyist,
give an update on legislation impacting social studies
education. You are invited to join the CCSS Committee
meetings on Saturday and give your input. Drop by our CCSS
booth for the latest information; meet our CCSS officers at
the Welcome Reception on Friday, and attend the CCSS Annual
Meeting on Saturday. A fun-filled weekend for you!

tax) per night (upon availability). Book
