Becoming a Member

Purpose:

• To advocate and promote social studies education as an essential foundation in developing citizens for a democratic society:
• To encourage superior training of teachers in social studies through state and regional conferences;
• To identify and produce quality resources for the improvement of social studies programs and instruction;
• To assist in the development and implementation for state and local policies, legislation, frameworks, guides, testing programs and other instructional components.

• Annual Conference: reduced registration for the statewide annual conference.
• Legislative Representation: Legislation representation that advocates the interest of social studies to the State Board of Education, members of the legislature, and other educational agencies.
• Publications: Social Studies Review, an award-winning, nationally recognized peer-reviewed journal that provides in-depth coverage of an important and durable theme.  Sunburst, an electronic newsletter published every six weeks that features timely events and opportunities, as well as announcements of programs and activities of state and local organizations, Occasional Papers, a quarterly peer-reviewed short publication on an important research-based topic useful for pre-service classrooms and K-12 classroom professional development sessions. Other timely and valuable information is available in the members only areas of the CCSS.org website.
