Local Councils
Nineteen local Councils for the Social Studies are affiliated with CCSS. Select the one nearest you when you apply for CCSS membership. Some Local Councils are more active than others. To become a member of an active affiliated Council, contact your area Vice President to make contact with other interested social studies educators. In active Councils, officers are elected by the membership. Then the officers submit a budget, a calendar, a roster of officers, and affiliation papers to the Executive Secretary by August 30. Local Council reaffiliation is affirmed by the CCSS Board of Directors at the September meeting. On the map below, interested members can see how their local county office of education region relates to California Council for the Social Studies areas and Local Councils.
