Localizing History and Connecting Youth the Stories of Their Community 

PANEL DISCUSSION

Myles Mukulic

This panel discussion will highlight the collective efforts of historians and high school educators to uncover the local history of the El Monte and South El Monte in the San Gabriel Valley.  The panelists will highlight how they used archival material and the recently published East of East: The Making of Greater El Monte to develop lesson plans for a variety of classes, including United States History and Ethnic Studies.  The teachers will share about their experience teaching local history and how it has impacted their students.

Myles Mikulic is a doctoral candidate of History at Claremont Graduate University and part-time archivist.
