Alfredo Silva

As an area representative I am confident that my experience will allow me to advocate for teaching honest history while respecting multiple perspectives. I believe that teaching for justice requires a combination of empathy, love, and compassion. The value of dates and wars committed to memory seems less relevant today than does our students' abilities to critical ask thoughtful questions about place, space, and belonging and then express those thoughts in a way they are proud of. Creativity, collaboration, and innovation are the necessary tools of high school history teachers of the future.
